January 12, 2007:  NKEF Assists Kingston Junior High With Mental Illness Awareness In-service Training.  NK Education Foundation joined with Kingston Junior High in presenting the Parents and Teachers as Allies program from the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) to KJH staff on January 12. Donations from the Kvistad family, Rotary Club of Poulsbo-North Kitsap, and Suquamish Clearwater Casino made the training possible.  The theme of the training was "recognizing early-onset mental illness in children and adolescents."  Nationally trained trainers from NAMI Orange County, California and two local parents presented the two-hour training.  On January 11 the trainers presented a day-long "train the trainers" session at KJH which attracted more than a dozen people, some from as far away as Wenatchee.  NK Education Foundation has established the Mental Illness Awareness Education Fund specifically to support programs of this kind in our schools.
